Fiona’s puppies are now 5 weeks old. You will notice that we only have pictures of 4, instead of the 7 from last blog post. Almost 2 weeks ago some of the puppies started to get sick and we realized that they had canine herpes virus. CHV is carried by many dogs and does not affect older ones, but can be fatal for puppies. There is no known cure or treatment. It was a rough week as we watched 3 of the puppies fade and eventually pass away. The hardest thing about CHV is that since you can’t do anything for the puppies, you feel so helpless 🙁
We are relieved that 4 of the puppies survived and are now starting to thrive. Due to being delivered by c-section and then fighting the virus, they are smaller than some of our other Cavachons at this age. They did not want to eat food for a long time and Fiona’s milk is drying up, so we were thankful to finally discover that they love goat milk! After supplementing for awhile, we have begun mixing a little of the dog food with it and they are starting to eat.
We will have a vet exam next week to make sure that they are all healthy but we feel confident that we are definitely on the upside. They are starting to get playful and interactive. We will be keeping them here longer than normal before allowing them to go home and we look forward to enjoying our time with them.
Here is Bentley
Lacy, my sister’s cat, wanted to check him out 🙂
That little tongue though!
Here is Liddell … his name fits his size pretty well 🙂
Such a darling little fella!
Here is Theodore – Theo for short 🙂
Peek a boo!
Here is Corrie. As you will notice in her pictures, she has tear stains and wisps of hair around her eyes … that’s not how she normally is but I didn’t have time to trim and bathe her before I started her pictures. Now I’m wishing I had because it shows up so much in the pictures … hopefully next weeks’ pictures of her will be much better!
She’s got such a Cavalier’s head!
These puppies are so cute. We might have to talk to you about one of these if you don’t have any coton puppies soon.
Is the female still available?
Hello Tabi,
Thank you for contacting us. I am not sure yet, we have to contact a few people on our waiting list. If she is available, I can let you know, if you would like! Thanks.
